Kusum Kangaru Peak Climbing

Kusum Kanggaru (6367 m) lies on the lap of Kumbu Himalaya, Sagarmatha zone of eastern Nepal. It is also known as a triple-summited mountain in the Khumbu Region. It forms the border between the Dudhkosi in the south and Hinku Valley to the north. Kusum Kanguru name has derived from "Three Snow-White Gods" in the Tibetan language and the shape of the mountains is quiet similar to Kushum Kangaru animals. Regarded as technically very challenging on all possible routes, Kusum Kanguru is an impressive rock and ice peak which forms the border between the Dudhkosi in the south and Hinku Valley to the north. Its name originating in Sherpa language means the Three Snow-White Gods. This climb is suggested only for participants who have enough alpine mountaineering experience. Kusum Kanguru, an impressive peak of rock and ice possess a great challenge to the mountaineers. It is considered the most difficult peak for climbing among the trekking peaks in Nepal. It has two famous ridge which as given here in details.

South - East Ridge

The approach to the South East Face is from the Hinku valley side. From Lukla the base camp can be reached in 5 days. The ascent route to the main summit is through the South East Face. With a base camp at 4360m, two or three high camps are required to complete the climb.

North Ridge

The North Ridge is approached from Monjo on the trail to Namche Bazaar. From base camp ascend steep grass and screed and finally a ramp leading to the ridge proper. Kusum Kangaru Peak Climbing Itinerary

Day 01
Meet at Kathmandu international Airport and transfer to hotel (1348 m)
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, Tribhuwan International Airport, we will receive you with private vehicle and transfer to hotel in Kathmandu or in Planet hotel Bhaktapur in B/B plan. Our representative will give you information about further programs.
Day 02
Sightseeing around Kathmandu valley.
In the morning after breakfast at 9 AM, we host a Pre - Trip meeting at your hotel in Kathmandu and introduced your trek Leader / Guide mean time and it will provide an opportunity for individuals to ask questions about the your trek and to introduce you to other participants. This includes a final briefing and preparations for the trip.
Day 03
Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2886m.) and Trek to Phakding: 35 Min fly: 3:30 hrs trek
Early morning, fly together to Lukla. Lukla is a small town with an airport. There are few tea shops, lodges, hotels and general stores. You begin today’s trek from Lukla following a gentle climb up the mountainside on the left bank of the Dudh Koshi. Nupla (5885m) can be seen in the distance on the opposite bank, is a peak atop the Kongde Ridge. You descend a mountainside path that merges into your route to Everest, with views to a valley to your right; and at its far end, Kusum Kang (6367m.). The Dudh Kosi approaches as you pass a Mani wall and arrive at Ghat teahouse. You continue along a small path with many climbs and descents following the left bank of Dudh Koshi to Phakding.
Day 04
Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440 m.), 5 hrs

Thamserku looms skyward on the opposite bank. You cross a stream and climb the terraced hill from the Dudh Koshi route, to arrive at Benkar. The trail now climbs from the riverbed on the left bank into the mountain, through a forest to Chumoa. You continue along a path with many ups and downs; cross a stream, and pass by the tiny village of Monjo. Now you descend the path of stone steps and return to the right bank. After a short climb you come to Jorsale’s teahouse and hotel, also stop at the National Park entrance counter where National Park fee is collected. After your departure from Jorsale you enter a forested mountainside. You follow a short walk along the riverbed of this V-shaped valley where the river forks - the right is the Dudh Koshi and the left is the Bhote Koshi that leads to Nampa La. After short distance along the Bhote Kosi you begin the steep ascent to Namche Bazar. As the mountain path zigzags uphill, you will emerge at a ridge top rest area that offers excellent views of Everest (8848m) and Lhotse (8516m.), The climb eases somewhat, and Namche Bazar appears ahead as you travel along the path surrounded by pines. Pass the plateau where the Saturday market is held and enter the village. Namche Bazar (3440m) is surrounded on three sides by mountain ranges and opens out only where it faces the Bhote Koshi. The village is a central hub of the area and food, sundries and even mountain climbing equipment may be purchased here.

Day 05
Rest day at Namche Bazaar (3440 m.) for acclimatization :
Namche is tucked away between two ridges amidst the giant peaks of the Khumbu and has an abundance of lodges, tea shops and souvenir shops as well as a magnificent outlook. It is an ideal place to spend a rest day for acclimatization to the high altitude before heading off towards Tyangboche. For the acclimatization you walk up to Khhumjung where you can visit monastery. Khhumjung is densely populated by Sherpa community. You can also enjoy the splendid views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Nuptse, Lhotse, Tawche and kongde. Or you can have an hour walk up to the Syangboche (3800m.) where you will have the amazing view of Mt.Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Cholatse, Tawoche, Kwangde, Kusum Kangaru and more.. There is an also good view from the National Park Centre and Museum just above the town. This museum exhibits Sherpa culture.
Day 06
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Kushum Kangaru Base Camp (4360 m.): 5hrs
You leave the village for a climb to the top of a ridge and level mountain path that offers an excellent panorama of Thamserku, Kantega, and Kusum Kangrib. To the right there is a steep cliff that drops down to the Dudh Kosi, faintly visible on the valley floor below. As you make your way around a branch ridge, Ama Dablam (6812m) Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse (7855m) and Tawoche (6501m) suddenly appear. After a gentle descent the mountain path ends; you will come to the fork leading to Gokyo valley. Now you descend past two tea houses and through the village of Trashinga. Though you cannot see it, you can hear the Dudh Kosi and soon you descend to the river and arrive at Phunki Tenga. It is a long climb to Kusum Kangaru Base Camp. The first half is especially steep. As you climb through the forested zone, the incline eases and a splendid view appears. Continue climbing the mountainside diagonally until you reach to the Base Camp. You can fix your Tents here for your camp site because the himalayan views are superb
Day 07
Trekking and climbing from Base Camp to Camp I (5100 M), 6 hrs.
This day after having sunny breakfast, our Nepalese support team will take you to the Camp I which takes about 6 hrs. Overnight at Tented Camp.
Day 08
Climbing from I Base Camp to Camp II (5800 M), 4 hrs.
This day you can get Camp II and advance preparation for Summit.
Day 09
Summit day (6367 M) and descend down to Normal Base Camp, 6 hrs.
If the weather permits, you can get summit this day and afterwards descend down to Normal Base Camp for stay overnight.
Day 10
Reserve day for contingency,
There is no such guarantee that we can get quite a favorable weather on our planned day for the summit. So this day is used as a contingency in case if we are unable to summit due to bad weather condition or some other reasons. If weather gets exceptionally unfavorable we wisely have to postpone the program of summiting the peak. Sometimes somebody in the group may get some problems in acclimatizing well enough to make the ascent; the day can be used in that condition too. If the trip goes smoothly, we do not need this spare day.
Day 11
Trek from Base Camp to Namche Bazaar (3440 m): 6 : 30 hrs
During this day, trek from Kusum Kangaru is mostly downhill on the main busy trail with a few steep climbs for an hour from the bridge at Phungitenga. The walk to Namche is very scenic on a long winding path. During the route you will visit traditional villages of Khumjung and Khunde. There is an opportunity to visit one of its monasteries, the only monastery that has a Yeti Scalp. From Khumjung village another 30 minutes walk brings you to the village of Khunde, where you can visit the Khunde Hospital funded by Sir Edmund Hillary Trust. After Khunde, a scenic and pleasant walk brings you to Namche for the overnight.
Day 12
Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2886 m.): 7 hrs
The last day of your trek leads from Namche Bazaar via Monjo to Lukla. The trek is pleasant, except for few short uphill climbs and then down to the Bhote-Koshi River crossing it three times. The last uphill climb of 45 minutes will bring you to Lukla for your overnight stay.
Day 13
Thirty five minutes flight to Kathmandu from Lukla early in the morning.
Enjoying your last glimpse of the mountains you have recently visited for one last time on the 35 minute Scenic flight back to Kathmandu. On arrival in Kathmandu we are met and transferred back to our starting hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 14
Drop you to the kathamndu international airport for your onward programs.
Our Nepalese support team will take you to the airport for your flight home. (Or stay longer for short tours such as game drive at National parks, rafting, Tibet tours, mountain biking etc).

Kusum Kangaru Peak Climbing Price Includes
