Langtang Valley Trek Itinerary
Day 01Arrival in Kathmandu Airport (1,350m). Pickup & Hotel TransferUpon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, our dedicated airport representative will warmly welcome you. You’ll be picked up in a private vehicle and transferred to your hotel in the heart of the Kathmandu Valley. After a welcome drink and a short briefing, you’ll check into your room and discuss the adventure ahead. If you’re feeling refreshed, you’re welcome to take a light stroll and explore the vibrant local markets and cultural sites nearby.
Day 02 Kathmandu UNESCO Heritage Sites Tours, 6 hoursToday is dedicated to discovering the highlights of Kathmandu’s ancient heritage. You’ll get your first insight into the spiritual blend of Hinduism and Buddhism. Key attractions include the Kumari Ghar (home of the Living Goddess), the historic Royal Palace, and several intricately carved pagodas. Tour continues to the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, followed by a visit to the revered Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple). You sightseeing concludes at the magnificent Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest in the world. Overnight at a comfortable hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 03 Bus transfer to Syabrubesi (2,380m/7,808 Feet), 7 hoursAfter an early breakfast, your guide will assist you to the Machhapokhari bus station, where you’ll board a local bus to Syabrubesi, the starting point of your trek. This scenic 7 hours drive offers breathtaking views of terraced hillsides, remote villages, winding mountain roads, and the mighty Trishuli River. Upon arrival at the bustling Syabrubesi bazaar, the remainder of the day is free for you to explore the village, relax, and interact with friendly locals. Overnight stay at a cozy lodge.
Day 04 Syabrubesi to Sherpa Gaon Trek (2,500m/8,202 Feet), 6 hoursYour trek begins right after breakfast with a walk through a peaceful pine forest, offering a refreshing start to the day. You’ll gradually ascends past the small village of Surka and continues through enchanting woodlands before joining a rocky, off-road path with sweeping views of the Langtang Valley.
Final stretch of this unique trail to Sherpa Gaon combines both off-road and foot trails, gently undulating across forested hills and ridges. Sherpa Gaon itself is a picturesque mountain village filled with traditional homes and welcoming teahouses.
Today’s elevation gain is approximately 1,645 meters uphill and 497 meters downhill. Total trekking distance is about 9.8 kilometers, typically completed in 6 to 7 hours. This day introduces you to the serene rhythm of the Himalayas.
Day 05 Sherpa Gaon to Thangshyap trek (3,190m/10,466 Feet), 6 hoursYour day begins with a narrow trail ascending to Rimche, where you join the main Langtang Valley trekking route. Expect to see fellow trekkers and mule trains along the way. Your ascent from Rimche to Thangshyap is mostly gradual, with only a few steep sections.
You’ll spend much of the day walking through serene forests, following the roar of the Langtang Khola river. Along the trail, teahouses provide opportunities to rest, enjoy lunch or tea, and perhaps spot wildlife like langurs, yaks, or mountain goats.
Today’s trek covers 11.4 kilometers, gaining approximately 1,343 meters and descending 761 meters which is a scenic and rewarding journey through Nepal’s Himalayan wilderness.
Day 06 Thangshyap to Kyanjin Gompa trek (3,865m/12,681 Feet), 5 hoursFrom Thangshyap, the landscape opens dramatically as you follow the valley upward. Surrounded by rising mountains on both sides, the trail offers expansive alpine views and passes isolated teahouses and small settlements like Gumba.
After crossing a rocky landslide zone, you reach Langtang Village by midday. From here, the route to Kyanjin Gompa is incredibly picturesque, with snow-capped peaks, glaciers, and prayer walls (Mani stones) lining the path.
Trekkers will have the mostly gentle and straight path, gaining about 898 meters and descending 228 meters over 10.5 kilometers. Kyanjin Gompa is a spiritual and scenic gem of the region, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 07Hike from Kyanjin Gompa to Kyanjin Ridge (4,586m/15,047 Feet), 4 hoursVisiting Kyanjin Ridge is one of the trek’s most scenic highlights with unmatched Himalayan views. Lower viewpoint at 4,300m already offers incredible sights, but if energy permits, continue to the upper viewpoint at 4,586m for panoramic vistas of snow-covered peaks and glacial valleys.
Bring plenty of water and a packed lunch, as there are no teahouses beyond the village. After descending, use your remaining time to explore Langtang Lirung Glacier, local rivers, yak cheese factories, or simply enjoy the serenity of the Langshisa Valley. You’ll ascend 730 meters and descend 228 meters, covering 4.5 kilometers at a relaxed pace. It’s a day of exploration and awe.
Day 08Hike to Tserkuri Peak (4,965m/16,290 Feet), 7 hoursToday is the ultimate challenge and reward of the Langtang Valley Trek with an ascent to Tserko Ri, the highest point most trekkers reach. Your hike to Tserkuri peak has steep and demanding trail gains over 1,100 meters, but a full circle mountain vista from the summit is absolutely worth the effort.
If snow is present, micro spikes are recommended due to slippery terrain during descent. Your guide from Gokyo Treks & Expedition will provide you a pack lunch and energy snacks on teh summit sightseeing. You’ll ascend and descend 1,154 meters, covering 9.3 kilometers over approximately 8 hours of trekking.
Day 09 Retrace your footsteps to Lama Hotel (2,470m/8,104 Feet), 7 hoursRetrace your steps from Kyanjin Gompa as you descend to Lama Hotel, a scenic retreat nestled along the Langtang River. Cross the suspension bridges, riverbanks, and lush forests, offering a blend of natural beauty and cultural immersion.
Today’s walk captures the essence of the majestic towering peaks, cascading streams, and tranquil village life. Your downhill journey is physically easier but equally inspiring. However, it covers 18.2 kilometers, with 453 meters of ascent and 1,833 meters of descent which is a full day descent into the forested valley.
Day 10 Lama Hotel to Syapru Besi trek (2,380m/7,809 Feet), 6 hoursYour final trekking day takes you from Lama Hotel back to Syabrubesi, concluding the Langtang trail. This descent winds through dense forests, terraced fields, and peaceful hamlets like Bamboo and Pahiro.
Walk along the banks of the Langtang River, spot wild honeycombs on cliffs, and reflect on the adventure as the path gradually flattens. As you arrive at Syabrubesi Bazaar, it greets you at the end with a colorful reminder of the cultural richness of the region. Today’s route includes 524 meters uphill and 1,558 meters downhill, covering 10.6 kilometers of rewarding terrain.
Day 11 Bus transfer back to Kathmandu. Good bye Kathmandu!After breakfast, board a local or private bus for the scenic return journey from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu. Your driving weaves through the lush valleys, high ridges, and traditional rural settlements. It takes around 7 to 8 hours drive that presents a final glimpse of unique diverse landscapes.
Arriving back in Kathmandu, you return to the vibrancy of city life with a colorful markets, ancient temples, and bustling streets await. It’s the perfect time to unwind and reflect on your incredible Himalayan journey. Transfer to hotel, trip finish.
