The Muktinath to Thorong La Pass Trek is a stunning high-altitude adventure that takes you through one of the most iconic sections of the Annapurna Circuit. Typically crossing from east to west, starting in Manang and ending in Muktinath is a normal and an easier route. When trekked in the opposite direction from Muktinath (west) to Manang (east), it is sometimes referred to as the reverse Thorong La anti clockwise route.
However, this reverse direction is not commonly recommended due to the rapid altitude gain, which increases the risk of acute mountain sickness (AMS). This standard east to west direction allows for better acclimatization and a safer ascent.
Starting from the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath Temple, nestled in the Mustang region, the trail ascends through dramatic Himalayan landscapes, ancient Tibetan-influenced villages, and windswept valleys.
You’ll have a thrilling journey crossing of Thorong La Pass (5,416m) which is one of the highest trekking passes in the world. It provides a super scenic and panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Likewise, its an ideal for trekkers seeking a shorter yet challenging route, this trek combines rich cultural heritage, breathtaking alpine scenery, and spiritual significance.
Along the way, you’ll experience traditional Nepalese hospitality in teahouses and witness the diverse beauty of both the lower Kali Gandaki valley and the remote highlands. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or a passionate adventurer, the Muktinath to Thorong La Trek delivers an unforgettable Himalayan experience that blends nature, culture, and spiritual exploration.

Weather and climates
Trek around the Annapurna is a delightful spot with amazing scenes located behind the Himalayas. When you go higher such as Thorong La at 5,416 meters, you must be watchful about the temperature contrasts between the daytime and evening time. Since it is a low elevation trek, a slight increment in height ordinarily does not influence the temperature and climate along the trek route. Likewise, in the summer or winter, the temperature changes rapidly without limits.
There are odds of the temperature going somewhat underneath the characteristic of zero degrees in some winter months. Additionally, in the late spring, the temperature is around 15 to 17 degrees centigrade enabling you to make the trek with only a shirt and some shorts.
