Express or a rapid trek to Tsum Valley rewards trekkers with outstanding views of Buddha Himal, Ganesh Himal, Ngadi Chuli (7,879 m), Sringi Himal, Himal Chuli (7,893 m), Manaslu (8,163m). Part of the inner Himalayas, the valley is exceptionally rich in cultural treasures.

Local people, known as the “Tsombo” Tibetan group, welcome guests with traditional Tibetan butter tea and locally prepared dishes. This territory has dotted with ancient Buddhist monasteries, chortens, and mani walls.

Tsum Valley Trek itinerary

1 Day Arrival in Kathmandu airport and transfer to hotel

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, our airport representative will meet you and arrange a private transfer you to your hotel in the Kathmandu. After a welcome drink, you can check into your room and discuss your travel plans. If you wish, you may also take a short walk to explore parts of the city.

2 DayDrive with a private Jeep from Kathmandu to Machha Khola (930m/3,051 Feet), 8 hours.

Your journey begins with a scenic private jeep ride through winding mountain roads, lush hillsides, and charming rural villages. Along the way, you’ll pass cascading rivers and terraced farmlands that showcase the beauty of countryside. By afternoon, you’ll reach Machha Khola, a peaceful riverside settlement where your trekking adventure will begin.

3 DayTrek to Jagat village (1,440m/4,725 Feet), 6 hours.

Follows your journey via the Budi Gandaki River valley, weaving through narrow valleys and subtropical forests. Crossing suspension bridges and small Gurung villages, you’ll witness a blend of culture and nature. The day ends in Jagat, a picturesque stone paved village with rich traditional charm.

4 Day Jagat to Lokpa trek (2,240m/7,349 Feet) 7 hours.

Trekker’s need ascends through terraced hills and rhododendron forests, with occasional glimpses of snow llllclad peaks. The route gradually leaves the main Manaslu trail and enters the tranquil Tsum Valley region. Lokpa welcomes you with its quiet, rustic beauty and warm local hospitality.

5 Day Lokpa to Chumling trekking (2,285m/7,497 Feet), 6 hours.

You’ll hike along a peaceful forested trail, passing mani walls and chortens that mark the valley’s Tibetan Buddhist influence. Surrounding of the mountains creates a dramatic backdrop throughout the day. Chumling has stunning views of Shringi Himal and a serene village atmosphere.

6 Day Chumling to Chhokangparo trek (3,010m/9,876 Feet), 7 hours.

You’ll ascends gradually through fertile farmland and scattered hamlets. As you gain altitude, the landscapes open up to expansive views of the Ganesh Himal range. Chhokangparo, located in the upper Tsum Valley, is known for its cultural richness and panoramic Himalayan scenery.

7 DayChhokangparo to Nile trek (3,347m/10,982 Feet), 6 hours.

You’ll trek through windswept valleys dotted with mani stones, chortens, and ancient prayer flags. Terrain becomes more rugged and remote, with striking mountain vistas at every turn. The day concludes in Nile, one of the last villages before the Tibetan border.

8 DayNile to Mu Gumpa Trek (3,580m/11,746 Feet), 6 hours.

Today’s journey takes you to the sacred Mu Gumpa monastery, one of the highest in the region. Surrounded by towering peaks, the area is steeped in spirituality and age-old traditions. It has a peaceful setting that invites quiet reflection amidst the grandeur of the Himalayas.

9 DayMu Gumpa to Rachen Gumpa trek (3,210m/10,532 Feet), 5 hours.

A gentle descent leads you back through traditional villages and cultivated fields. You’ll arrive at Rachen Gumpa, a significant nunnery with deep cultural and religious roots. You will have a warm hospitality of the nuns and the serene setting make for an inspiring overnight stay.

10 DayRachen Gumpa to Dhumje trek (2,405m/7,891 Feet), 5 hours.

It meanders downhill through alpine forests and small settlements. Views of surrounding mountains and valleys keep the journey lively. Dhumje, a small village surrounded by natural beauty, offers a peaceful resting spot for the night.

11 DayDunje to Gumba Lungdang trekking (3,310m/10,860 Feet), 5 hours.

You’ll ascend through lush forests filled with pine, juniper, and rhododendron. Journey leads to Gumba Lungdang, a remote monastery with commanding mountain views. Here, you’ll experience the quiet spiritual life of the resident monks.

12 Day Traverse to Jagat village (1,440m/4,725 Feet) 8 hours.

This long trekking day retraces your steps through diverse landscapes and from high mountain paths to subtropical valleys. Along the way, you’ll revisit familiar villages and enjoy a final taste of Tsum Valley hospitality. The day ends back in the welcoming village of Jagat.

13 DayReturn to Macha Khola, 6 hours.

Following the Budi Gandaki once more, the trail gently descends through terraced farmlands and lush river valleys. You’ll pass suspension bridges and vibrant rural communities. Machha Khola offers a comfortable rest before your return to Kathmandu.

14 DayJeep/Bus back to Kathmandu. Trip finish.

A scenic drive brings you back to the bustling capital, with final glimpses of the hills and rivers that shaped your journey. The contrast between remote mountain life and vibrant Kathmandu is striking. Your trek concludes with unforgettable memories of Tsum Valley’s landscapes, culture, and people.

What’s not includes:

  • Lunch and dinner while staying in Kathmandu before or after the trek.
  • Mandatory insurance covering emergency helicopter evacuation, high-altitude trekking, and medical expenses.
  • Bottled water, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages.
  • Snacks, hot showers, internet, and battery charging at tea houses.
  • Personal clothing, sleeping bag, trekking poles, and gear (can be rented or purchased in Kathmandu).
  • Tipping is expected and customary in Nepal for good service.
  • Extra nights in Kathmandu or along the trek due to delays caused by weather, landslides, illness, or other unforeseen events.
  • Side trips or excursions cost if applicable.
